The 2012 Fisheries of the US report was released recently. The combined value of all US crab fisheries (over $680 million) was higher than any other major group.
The good news for the blue crab fishery is that it was the 5th most valuable US fishery species and increased about $4 million to just under $190 million. The not so good news is that the weight of crabs landed was down slightly in the major states (LA, MD, VA, NC) and overall. Many other states with small fisheries posted increases. The figure below shows updated harvest records for the period 1950-2012 for the US Atlantic Coast. I'll post figures for the Gulf Coast soon.
